Beginner's Introduction to Drupal: Basic Concepts and Features
This session is targetted at people who have never used Drupal before. After a brief overview of Drupal, the session will proceed through a series of basic demonstrations of common Drupal actions. These demonstrations will serve as examples to help explain most of the following concepts and features:
- Installing Drupal (version 6)
- Themes
- Content Types
- Nodes
- Blocks
- Modules
- Users
- Roles
- Permissions
- Menus
- Clean URLs
- Aliases
- Drupal Help
This session will use Drupal 6, but differences between Drupal 6 and Drupal 7 will be noted where applicable. No knowledge of HTML or PHP is necessary.
Philip Kiff is the webmaster at the Institute for Work & Health. He began learning Drupal at Toronto Drupal Camp 2008.
Post- presentation follow-up:
Those at the essions will have noticed that I only managed to cover the first few items of the topics listed above. I definitely underestimated the time that a hands-on demo would take! I'm making my slides available as a PDF document since they do include some basic term definitions along with some embedded hyperlinks to more information:
