Contributing to Drupal: Code, Community, and Cookies
Update: I've uploaded the slides to my website.
One of the most difficult hurdles for new members of the Drupal community to overcome is making the jump from a "user" to a "contributor". Many associate "contributor" with core hackers, PHP gurus, and CSS wizards. This session will show the many ways that someone can become involved with the Drupal community - especially those without "back-end" programming experience. Topics covered will include:
- Using drupal.org and groups.drupal.org effectively
- Learning to use IRC - with friendly and free graphical clients
- Best practices for contributing documentation and translations
- Creating useful bug reports and creating patches - even if you don't know PHP
Andrew Berry provides custom Drupal development and consulting services, and has been a Drupal user and contributor for over 4 years.
